Chemical filter media primarily influence the pH value and water hardness (EHEIM PEAT) or reduce the phosphate content and thus inhibit troublesome algae growth (EHEIM phosphateout).
The pH value of tap water is usually slightly alkaline (calcareous). However, most ornamental fish prefer acidic water. EHEIM PEAT pellets lower the pH value and thus reduce the water hardness (lime-reducing).
Phosphates are mainly caused by organic contamination of the aquarium water (from food residues, faecal excrement) and are responsible for algae growth. EHEIM phosphateout binds the phosphate and removes it from the water cycle.
EHEIM PEAT pellets. EHEIM PEAT pellets for external filters. Chemically effective filter peat lowers the pH value and thus reduces water hardness.
EHEIM PEAT pellets consist of naturally acidic, specially treated peat. It is rich in valuable substances such as humic acids and trace elements (therefore do not rinse). EHEIM PEAT pellets lower the pH value of the water (acidify it) and thus reduce the water hardness. However, the pellets should only be used if the pH value (required for the fish species) is exceeded. Peat filtration is particularly suitable for tropical clear to black water.
A mesh bag is included in the scope of delivery.
Note: Peat expands in the water. Therefore soak before use. Do not rinse the pellets, otherwise valuable ingredients will be lost. Replace after 3-6 weeks. Do not use at the same time as activated carbon. Only suitable for fresh water.
